A Park in Shanghai
New Year's Day dawned really really cold but we managed to get the kids to go outside and take our usual long walks from our home all the way to the bookshop (which is about 1-1.5 hrs of walk with the kids). On this walk, we decided to go via another road and 'discovered' this huge park which hardly had any people there.
The park is just amazing! Amazing in the sense that this felt like an 'oasis' in a rapidly changing Shanghai. It didn't feel like we were in Shanghai even. There were man-made creeks and wooden bridges and lots of trees. Very well-kept, too.
On one side there is an area for the aged folks to do some exercise as there were some public machines installed. The kids tried all of them and thought this was even a playground.
On the next block, the park continues and there is a big man-made lake where there's quite a number of resident swams, ducks, and carps. Plus, we were allowed to feed the ducks! The only letdown was people are not allowed on the grass. When we tried to walk across the big grassy lawn, this caretaker immediately kept shouting at us to go back to where we came from and get off the grass! Still, this is quite a nice park and we will definitely come back with bread for the ducks and more walks.
